1. How many microphones does AFC use?
One AFC system uses four or eight microphones depending on the size of the performance area. You can view typical microphone and speaker arrangements on the following web page. Please click on “System Table.”

2. What type of microphone should be used?
You have several options to choose from starting with the Schoeps BLM03C boundary microphone or MK2 capsule. You can select either depending on a given condition. The Audio Technica ES945, Audix SCX1-o and Audix M1290-o are also cost-effective options. If the venue is larger than approximately 800 seats, we recommend the Schoeps microphone because the S/N ratio is 10 - 20 dB higher than the others.

3. Where should the microphones be placed?
Microphones are fixed to, or hung from, the ceiling. They must be visible from the source point. They are set at or around the critical distance (Dc) from a representative source point.
4. How far apart should the microphones be?
The microphones should be positioned so that the closest microphone-to-microphone distance is no smaller than half the length of the lowest wavelength you want to enhance. For example, if you want to enhance more than 125 Hz, the distance between the microphones should be greater than or equal to 4.5 feet.
