System configuration

The core processor for the AFC system is AFC1. As shown in the block diagram, the AFC system consists of at least two AFC1 units, one of which is used for signal processing including Mixing, EMR, fluc-FIR, GEQ and Compressor and another which is used for output control including PEQ and a delay matrix. AFC1 has 8ch input and 32ch output, and the output of the total system can be expanded to 96ch by connecting three AFC1 units for output control to one AFC1 unit for signal processing with cascade cables.

Speaker and Microphone arrangement

For the reverberation enhancement, microphones are fixed to, or hung from, the ceiling. They are used to get a diffused sound at or around the critical distance from a representative source point. Speakers face horizontally or upwards, more than the critical distance away from the audience area to make its sound part of the diffuse field. This makes AFC effective anywhere in the room for both the sound source and receiver positions.

AFC1

The base unit digital processor is the core unit for AFC system. The system consists of at least two units. The first processor includes the following fixed-architecture processing blocks: Input Mixer, Electric Microphone Rotator (EMR), Reflector with fluc-FIR, Notch filter, 31 points GEQ, and Compressor. This unit has eight AFC microphone inputs, four SR inputs, seven Surround inputs, and 13 Auxiliary inputs. The AFC function controls the EMR, fluc-FIR, Notch filter, 31 points GEQ, and Compressor. The SR function controls the PA processing including Gain and the 31 points GEQ. The Surround function has multi channel control of Gain, HPF/LPF, 31 points GEQ and Delay. The second unit includes fixed architecture processing blocks for a 24 x 32 Level-Delay Matrix and a 6 points PEQ for the 32 output channels. The LD Matrix allows routing from any input to any output. Level and Delay parameters are variable at each cross point. These are possible to individually mute all inputs and outputs. It is possible for the installer to expand the base unit’s total outputs to 32 output ports via four mini YGDAI slots. I/O cards for the YGDAI slots accept a variety of analog and digital I/O configurations (AES/EBU, ADAT, TASCAM). Total output channels are expandable up to 96 channels by cascading four processors. AFC system on/off, 6 patterns and 8 livenesses are retrievable via the MIDI, 16 GPI inputs and ouputs, or RS-232C serial ports.

With AD8HR and MY8-DA96, the digital processor has a maximum input level of +30 dBu and a maximum output level of +18 dBu. The frequency response is +1 to -3 dB between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. The dynamic Range is greater than 110 dB (typical, Gain +10 dB) and THD is less than 0.01 % at 1 kHz, +10 dBu. The input impedance is 3 k ohms. The output impedance is 150 ohms. Inputs and outputs are balanced type on XLR connectors. LED indicators show the current Pattern number and Liveness value.

S8AFC

Speakers designed for Active Field Control system
AFC speaker has wide dispersion so that feedback process works effectively and listener can hardly localize the sound from the enhancement speakers. The specification of the speaker is effective for "natural changes" of the AFC system.
Enclosure Type and Driver Type
  • Enclosure type is mainly used for wall mounting
  • The enclosure is finished with paintable black
  • Driver type is used for the ceiling with the speaker can which is selected by a contractor depending on architectural requirements.
  • The Driver type is fit to standard speaker cans introduced by many manufacturers
